Year 9 Media Arts Animation

Year 9 Media Arts Animation – Term 04 Mr Andrews

claire green 90
Task 4: e-pub, commentary and poster self-reflection and evaluation:

Part One: Discuss your feelings about the e-pub, poster and commentary task:
  1. Are you satisfied with the final result?
I am not 100% satisfied with my final result as if had more time i would have made a better background and improved the layout more.
  1. Did the e-pub require more/less time than you originally thought?
It required less time then i thought, i did it bit by bit and that made it easier for me and shorter.
  1. Would like to change any aspects of your fi nal project (layout, links, images, video and audio content, colour scheme etc)?
I would have changed the layout of of my ibook as i would add more colour and added more images.
  1. If you could start the project again what would you do differently?
I would have recorded my voice on garage band differently and put more effort into that part of it.

Part Two: Respond to each of the following dot points (using complete sentences or paragraphs). You should include as much detail as possible in your responses.

  1. Discuss whether your e-pub and poster have turned out the way you pictured them?
no, i thought mine would have been more colourful and had more pictures but it did not turn out like that.
  1. Explain whether your e-pub and poster clearly depicts the style of your animation and describe some specific design principles that you have used to achieve this;
no, the front of my ibook represents the theme and colour as it is blue like the water, but the rest is plain white for my design.
  1. Describe any problems or technical difficulties you encountered while creating your director commentaries in GarageBand. These may include; sound or video issues, corrupt or missing files, difficulty using the iBooks Author or GarageBand software, problems importing/exporting files, etc;
I had difficulties with garage band as i did not know how to get my recorded voice memo’s onto my ibook. This took a lot of time to figure out but exporting it was easy in the end.
  1. Did you have all of the necessary resources to complete your e-pub and poster or did you have to create new materials?
I had all the resources to make my poster and did not need to make new materials.
  1. List the steps you used to plan and develop your project;
-plan what my poster will look like
  • set out the layout of the whole ibook
  • drag my movie clips onto the ibook
  • record my garage band
  • export it
  • drag it too ibook
  1. Did you use content-lists, flowcharts or other documents during the planning process;
Yes i did, i wrote down on pages on the mac and made a list of what i needed to do and then ticked it off once completed.
  1. Clarify any time-management issues you encountered during the creative process and describe the steps you took to improve in this area;
I had stuggled with time management with the previous assignments but for this I did not have any issues during the creative process.
  1. Discuss whether you undertook adequate and detailed reflection throughout your project. i.e. Have you provided enough evidence to support your work? (Look back at your blogs and think about whether it looks like a whole terms worth of work);

I wrote down my reflections on pages but havent had any time to post them, I did reflect on many things but did not have enough time to post them.

Reflection And Evaluation

Year 9 Creative Media Animation Project – Term 03: Mr Andrews

Animation Unit: Self-reflection and project evaluation:

Claire Green

Discuss your feelings about the production task:
  • Are you satisfied with the final result?
I am satisfied with my final result, Even though it is very short I think it looks good and is good for a final result.
  • Did the animation process require more or less time than you originally thought?
It required more time then I expected, I originally thought that since it was only a stop motion on a whiteboard that it would be easier but it did require a lot more time as It was hard to draw if you are not the best at drawing which in our case Holly and myself are terrible artists.
  • Would like to change any aspects of your final project (style of animation, the concept etc.)?
I would change the lighting in the video, as it really showed a lot in the video and other then the drawing it would draw your attention as the lighting would change a lot.
  • If you could start the project again what would you do differently?
I would change the lighting of the video as it made a big difference to the video, I would also change the plot of the video so that way it would be more descriptive and make the video longer and more interesting to watch.

Respond to each of the following dot points (using complete sentences or paragraphs). You should include as much detail as possible in your responses.

  • Discuss whether your final animation has turned out the way you imagined?
My animation did turn out how I expected, I imagined the drawings on the whiteboard to be more complex and better. Although it did not turn out how i expected it with the design and pictures, I think the sound effects and story board did turn out how i expected it to look and sound.
  • Discuss whether you had to modify any elements of your original concept and planning to create your project;
Yes, For time management we had to change our original story. We originally were going to use clay to show the story, after trying to make the shapes and move the clay we changed it to drawings on the whiteboard. To make it longer we changed out shotlist to make the story more developed and longer.
  • Explain how your animation skills developed during the project (i.e. did you become more efficient?; did the quality of your animation improve?; did you have to use a variety of animation techniques? etc);
My animation skills did improve a little bit with stop motion. We got better with the setup as we got help with setting up the lighting to make the animation clearer and easier to see and watch. Also I got better at learning stop motion and better then i was before we started this assignment.
  • Describe any problems or difficulties you encountered during the animation process. (These may include; technical difficulties, corrupt or missing files, difficulty using the editing software, problems exporting etc.)
We had a lot of difficulties that we encountered during the process. Time management was a big problem as since working in a group of 2 we should have finished earlier and done 2 scenes individually a lesson, but with our poor time management we did not think of this. Using the editing software was easy, Another difficulty was our drawing skills as we were both not the best artist. Also with myself being away last term for the planning it was hard to find the same time as others and nearly fell behind.
  • Explain if you made effective use of storyboards and scene planning/breakdown?
We did make effective use of storyboard and scene planning, it helped us know the story of our animation and now what we had to do.
  • Describe whether your planning assisted or helped you to focus during the animation process;
Planning helped a lot as when filming we could easily refer back to the shotlist and planning to see what we had to film every certain lesson, what colours we needed and it helped us keep on track and focus on what scene we were to film.
  • Describe any time-management issues you or your group came across during the project and describe the steps you took to improve in this area;
We had ALOT of time management issues, As i was away last term and could not help out with developing the storyboard and the shot list. Since we were in a group of 2 what we SHOULD have done was each film one scene alone so at the end of a lesson we would already have 2 scenes done, but since we worked on 1 scene together it took more time and made the project longer.
  • Discuss whether you undertook adequate and detailed reflection throughout your project. Have you provided enough evidence to support your work? (Look back at your blogs/journals and think about whether it looks like a whole term worth of work);
I think I did undertake a fair amount of reflections, not as much blog posts as I could have but I did try my best to reflect on what I had done in the lesson or the previous lesson the week before or after. I do think i could have had more blog posts for a whole term worth of work.
  • List any other software skills, animation techniques, tricks or shortcuts you have learned during the project.

I learned how to use imovie better, garage band and learn more lighting techniques and also stop motion.

This week

this week in media arts,

My partner holly was away on year 9 camp,
As a result I took advantage of this opportunity and added the music and sound effects to our project.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9JD6j3becQ

this is the link to a water drain sound effect I used to make our video come more alive, the rest of the music and sound effects I used from iMovie.

Solutions

For Media Holly and Myself are nearly at the end of filming our stop motion. We are only now in the progress of changing our shotlist and filming the very end.

To make the project better whilst Holly (media arts partner) is away all next week, I will be adding the sounds and exporting the project to iMovie

I will be uploading the finished and final shotlist once completed after we

change it to make our project longer.

Media Class

In media class,

Our stop motion is only 30 seconds so Holly and myself are struggling to come up with ideas to make it longer

this includes changing the idea of our project and also changing things on the shotlist

we have also had lots of trouble with lighting but have solved it by moving it further away from the whit board so

the light is not so harsh and does not show on camera film.

media arts stop motion

In media this week holly and myself have been working hard to get our project better and finished.

I was away on friday so holly had to film some parts on her own, when i go back to school next week we will work harder for the time lost on friday.

I think our stop motion will be completed and edited well as we have encountered an idea from our teacher using paper to move around instead of drawing.

Media Stopmotion problems?

In Media Holly and I encountered some trouble as some work got deleted and the lights needed changing. We also changed our shot list as holly and I are not good artists we changed from the cup to a drain. Mr Andrews came up with a good idea to draw on a piece of paper the picture and instead of removing the drawing from the whiteboard which was time consuming we are going to draw the picture on the paper and then move it around the board. Thus making it easier.

Holly and I had to start again because all of the lighting was different and so was the camera.

We ended up using the computer camera as the other camera appeared with lines of light.

We have now figured out for the lines to go away to change the height of the camera and set up the lights facing each other.

We have now overcome the problems and are starting to finish everything up.

Next blog post will feature snaps from our project.

Media stopmotion

For media myself and my partner have been doing drafts on stop motion to test out what the final copy will look. We have had help setting up the lighting in different places.

We have been filming on my camera at home as we have purchased a small whiteboard to do our animation on. The lighting has been hard as we can never get the lighting in the right spot but we have achieved it after placing the whiteboard in different places.

Next lesson we will continue with filming on the whiteboard in the classroom as it has professional lighting set ups.

Facial Expressions

Thinking about my media arts assignment term 2, I had been watching many youtube video's based on stop motion and animation. Later that day I viewed a video of someone using stop motion and play dough. I thought of an idea based on water.

My friend and I had put an idea together about getting blue play dough and making it look like water and progressing an idea from that.

I will keep looking for more videos and songs for inspiration.

Also I made a video using stop motion and animationish and put together a video of me saying hello my name is claire.

this youtube clip shows someone using stop motion with sticky notes. I really like the idea of doing this for the assignment, It looks like a long process but the end result looks really good!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSzCLf8tjP4

this other youtube clip shows someone making a stop motion animation using clay, this is also another stop motion method I would love to try and use.

Stop Motion

In Media Arts class term 2
I am learning how to use stop motion and animations.

In the previous lesson I had to take stop motion pictures of myself saying ''hello my name is claire'' after I exported the photos on to an animation app where I then traced around myself in the photo.

At the moment I am tracing the photo to make an animation of myself saying '' hello my name is claire''

Avatar Media Year 9 Reflection.

Creative Media Yr 9 - Photoshop Term 01 2011
Mr Andrews

Avatar Reflection/evaluation:  Claire Green

Respond to each of the following dot points (using complete sentences or paragraphs). You should include as much detail as possible in your responses.

Describe any problems or difficulties you encountered during the creation and editing of your avatar. These may include; technical difficulties, corrupt or missing files, knowledge of Photoshop tools issues. etc;
In the process of editing and creating my avatar I did along the process encounter with a few problems, such as : Not knowing what I was going to do for it, Finding the right picture on flickr that would be best for an overlay texture and also I found it a bit difficult to blend the colours together for the background.

Explain whether your planning and organisation (of ideas, files, inspiration) helped during the technical creation;
Yes, the planning and organisation did help as it gave me a base to work with and it was easy and good to look at so I knew exactly what I wanted to do.

Discuss whether you made effective use of the provided profile template to organise and prepare the required image assets and assist in the creative decision making process;
I do think this profile template helped me to organise and prepare as it really makes you think over the decisions of the photo and also its process, it also helped me be more creative when it came to making different ideas.

Clarify any time-management issues you encountered during the process and describe the steps you implemented to improve in this area;
I did have some time management issues with this as I had to start over again as I did not like my first idea so starting over did make some time management problems, A way I could have improved for that was before I started to really think over my idea before Starting.

Discuss whether you undertook adequate and detailed reflection to throughout your project. Have you provided enough evidence to support your work? (Look back at your blogs/journals and think about whether it looks like a whole terms worth of work);
Yes, I do think I did enough reflections throughout the project, Though if I could go back I would have put more detail into them. I would have also tried harder to make them for adequate.

List any skills, techniques or tricks you have discovered during the project.
Liquify, Cut, mask, change the eye colour, texture,overlays, erase, always have the black and white down the bottom.

Discuss your feelings about the Avatar task:
Are you satisfied with the final result?
Yes, I am satisfied with my final result as It does reflect me and goes (in my opinion) well together.

Would like to change any aspects of your avatar?
If I was to change anything I would have changed my eye colours to a different colour to reflect more of the background.

If you could start the project again what would you do differently?
I would have chosen to do a different personality, something darker and a character that was not at all like myself as It would be more fun and I could add more ideas to it.

Are you pleased with the progress you have made in using Photoshop?
I am pleased as now I know all of the different tools, I know how to overlay, add texture, crop, liquify and move the photo. I am very pleased and I hope to learn more about photoshop and learn new different techniques.

Final Photo.

This is my final edit for my 2014 photoshop assignment for media arts.

It represents myself as I am like the seasons. Summer for the bright and bubbly side of myself, winter for the dark and cold shy side of myself. And the overlay texture on my clothes and face represents the two seasons put together to make myself.

assignment for media arts 2014.

In media Arts last week, We were working on our photoshop assignments.

I had a few problems as I did not know what I Was going to do for mine. After redoing my photoshop project I now have a different ''character''.

My assignment has to different sides, one is winter (the side of myself that is shy and cold and sometimes dark) Also because I enjoy winter.

then I have my summer side ( the bright and happy and bubbly side of myself) I Also did this as I enjoy summer.

And than I will apply another texture which will be spring, the side of myself that is me all together, shy, happy all put in one.

Media Arts Assignment

In media arts this term, we are learning how to use photoshop.
For our assignment we have to make a photo edit of something that represents our personality.

For my assignment I Have a picture of myself smiling casually. For my personality side, I am making an edit of how I love the different seasons of the weather and how it can also represent personality sides.

Winter - angry
Summer - Happy

I thought this would be a good and creative idea to use for my assignment and use the tools that we have been learning to make this.

What Is an Avatar?

what is an avatar? - media arts question.
There are two different types of avatars and two different definitions.

definitions :

- a manifestation of a deity or released soul in bodily form on earth; an incarnate divine teacher.

- an icon or figure representing a particular person in a computer game, Internet forum, etc.

Changing A photo's emotions.

In media class, we have been using the tool ‘’liquify’’ to mix the pictures emotions. I have done this to a random image of a cat.. I have done this by making the cats eyes bigger i have made its face look sad by lowering it's eye lids and mouth.

the following image is included below :

Sloth and A Tiger Photoshop.

In class we have been working on how to morph animals
together and create different patterns. I have done the following to a sloth and a tiger. I have chosen a tiger and a sloth because of the colours they look similar and thats why it would be easier to mix and blend the colours and pictures together.
The image is included below :

Media arts.

In media arts we have learnt a new cool effect which is how to change the eye colour.

I have done this to one direction member zayn malik, his eyes are brown but with photoshop i have made his eyes blue. I have included the picture below.

To do this you use the mask tool, you also need to make a few layers, after you trace the eye you copy it and paste it onto a new layer
you then press the adjustment bottom up the top and then change and transform to hue and saturation, as you have done that you then make sure there is a tick on colorize and that allows you to change the colour of the eye to whatever colour you wish.

I had a lot of fun learning how to do this and the accomplishing it.

colours.

Today in media arts.

In our media arts class, we have learnt that there is two colours you need. black and white.

these two colours are displayed down the left hand side, you need to be careful which one you put at the front and which one behind as when you are erasing something the colour which is in front can determine how the picture might come out with a black line or if it works properly.

also we are learning about how to change the eye colour in our upcoming media arts class.

Today in class.

we have learnt a lot of different tools over the past weeks such as :

liquify : it changes the way the picture looks and can change the emotions on such pictures face.

the mask tool
the eraser tool : we do not use this tool as it is not the best one to use as you can't get back what you deleted.
we have learned how to layer one photo on top of another.
we have learned how to blend to photos together by clicking on one layer and adjusting the colour to fit the other one.

we have learned how to crop and rotate a photo using the free transform tool.

we have also learned how to fix blemishes with the healing tool.

all these techniques we use are extremely helpful and are going to be used in our upcoming assignment.

Learning new tools

In media class we were learning how to use the liquify tool. this tool lets you make different effects to the photo, an example would be a models face, we learned how to make the face look happy or sad by just making the eyes bigger or smaller or even making the mouth into a smile shape.

my first go at the liquify tool was on model Adriana lima.

I made her face look extremely different and look like a cartoon character.

The picture that i edited is below.

Learning New Techniques

Last Week in Media Arts, we learned about  a tool on photoshop called the ''liquefier''

I loved learning and experimenting with this new effect as it made different facial effects on the photo.

We also are learning about photoshopping animals and ourselves together and using all the tools we have learnt over the weeks for our assignment for term 1

Today's lesson

Today in media arts we learned about the different brush strokes and how we can change the shape and size of the brush. We have learnt in past lessons of the different layers we can add to the edit

we learn how to edit and photoshop photos on Adobe Photoshop CS6. We have learnt how to contrast colours together and cut and paste one layer of a photo onto another.

Next lesson we are going to learn more about the different types of brush strokes and how we can photoshop a celebrity onto an animal.
