Reflection And Evaluation

Year 9 Creative Media Animation Project – Term 03: Mr Andrews

Animation Unit: Self-reflection and project evaluation:

Claire Green

Discuss your feelings about the production task:
  • Are you satisfied with the final result?
I am satisfied with my final result, Even though it is very short I think it looks good and is good for a final result.
  • Did the animation process require more or less time than you originally thought?
It required more time then I expected, I originally thought that since it was only a stop motion on a whiteboard that it would be easier but it did require a lot more time as It was hard to draw if you are not the best at drawing which in our case Holly and myself are terrible artists.
  • Would like to change any aspects of your final project (style of animation, the concept etc.)?
I would change the lighting in the video, as it really showed a lot in the video and other then the drawing it would draw your attention as the lighting would change a lot.
  • If you could start the project again what would you do differently?
I would change the lighting of the video as it made a big difference to the video, I would also change the plot of the video so that way it would be more descriptive and make the video longer and more interesting to watch.

Respond to each of the following dot points (using complete sentences or paragraphs). You should include as much detail as possible in your responses.

  • Discuss whether your final animation has turned out the way you imagined?
My animation did turn out how I expected, I imagined the drawings on the whiteboard to be more complex and better. Although it did not turn out how i expected it with the design and pictures, I think the sound effects and story board did turn out how i expected it to look and sound.
  • Discuss whether you had to modify any elements of your original concept and planning to create your project;
Yes, For time management we had to change our original story. We originally were going to use clay to show the story, after trying to make the shapes and move the clay we changed it to drawings on the whiteboard. To make it longer we changed out shotlist to make the story more developed and longer.
  • Explain how your animation skills developed during the project (i.e. did you become more efficient?; did the quality of your animation improve?; did you have to use a variety of animation techniques? etc);
My animation skills did improve a little bit with stop motion. We got better with the setup as we got help with setting up the lighting to make the animation clearer and easier to see and watch. Also I got better at learning stop motion and better then i was before we started this assignment.
  • Describe any problems or difficulties you encountered during the animation process. (These may include; technical difficulties, corrupt or missing files, difficulty using the editing software, problems exporting etc.)
We had a lot of difficulties that we encountered during the process. Time management was a big problem as since working in a group of 2 we should have finished earlier and done 2 scenes individually a lesson, but with our poor time management we did not think of this. Using the editing software was easy, Another difficulty was our drawing skills as we were both not the best artist. Also with myself being away last term for the planning it was hard to find the same time as others and nearly fell behind.
  • Explain if you made effective use of storyboards and scene planning/breakdown?
We did make effective use of storyboard and scene planning, it helped us know the story of our animation and now what we had to do.
  • Describe whether your planning assisted or helped you to focus during the animation process;
Planning helped a lot as when filming we could easily refer back to the shotlist and planning to see what we had to film every certain lesson, what colours we needed and it helped us keep on track and focus on what scene we were to film.
  • Describe any time-management issues you or your group came across during the project and describe the steps you took to improve in this area;
We had ALOT of time management issues, As i was away last term and could not help out with developing the storyboard and the shot list. Since we were in a group of 2 what we SHOULD have done was each film one scene alone so at the end of a lesson we would already have 2 scenes done, but since we worked on 1 scene together it took more time and made the project longer.
  • Discuss whether you undertook adequate and detailed reflection throughout your project. Have you provided enough evidence to support your work? (Look back at your blogs/journals and think about whether it looks like a whole term worth of work);
I think I did undertake a fair amount of reflections, not as much blog posts as I could have but I did try my best to reflect on what I had done in the lesson or the previous lesson the week before or after. I do think i could have had more blog posts for a whole term worth of work.
  • List any other software skills, animation techniques, tricks or shortcuts you have learned during the project.

I learned how to use imovie better, garage band and learn more lighting techniques and also stop motion.

This week

this week in media arts,

My partner holly was away on year 9 camp,
As a result I took advantage of this opportunity and added the music and sound effects to our project.

this is the link to a water drain sound effect I used to make our video come more alive, the rest of the music and sound effects I used from iMovie.

Solutions

For Media Holly and Myself are nearly at the end of filming our stop motion. We are only now in the progress of changing our shotlist and filming the very end.

To make the project better whilst Holly (media arts partner) is away all next week, I will be adding the sounds and exporting the project to iMovie

I will be uploading the finished and final shotlist once completed after we

change it to make our project longer.

Media Class

In media class,

Our stop motion is only 30 seconds so Holly and myself are struggling to come up with ideas to make it longer

this includes changing the idea of our project and also changing things on the shotlist

we have also had lots of trouble with lighting but have solved it by moving it further away from the whit board so

the light is not so harsh and does not show on camera film.
