Reflection of term

As we have handed in our music video's, Mr Andrews was showing them on the screen to the class and as soon as mine was finished I realised how happy I am with the final result.

I think I have used my time well and have been very organised this term with this production/film.

I have worked very well in class and out of class filming with my group and I am very happy as watching It I can see how far I have come editing wise and using my time management better.

Self-reflection/evaluation:

Media Arts: Music Video Production – Term 04
Self-reflection/evaluation:

Respond to each of the following dot points (using complete sentences or paragraphs). You should include as much detail as possible in your responses.

Teamwork during Pre-Production:
  • Describe any problems or difficulties your group encountered while developing your music video concept and deciding upon music;
There was a few  problems in making the idea for the video concept and the song choice. At first we had all different songs in mind that were all completely different! One song was slow, one was fast and one we couldn't even understand what was going on. We discussed one song which both Sascha and Holly liked but I really wasn't liking it as I thought we should have a song that has a good build up and could be really dramatic to go along with the idea we had already decided firstly which was pretty easy to agree on as we all liked it.
  • Explain whether your group effectively used the pre-production and planning templates prior to filming;
The group used the pre production and planning templates effectively prior to filming. It helped a lot for all of us to understand what was going to be happening.
  • Describe whether your group made effective use of their time in class during pre-production. (Did each group member; contribute; have set tasks at all times; know their role in the group etc.)
Each member of the group used their time well during pre production. We were all so excited for the music video that we wanted to start straight away, so time management before production wasn't an issue as we all assigned jobs and positions to each other in order to start the project quicker and start as soon as possible.
  • List some steps your group could (or did) implement to improve in this area;
The steps were, assigning positions, making time slots, keeping focused and not messing around and wasting valuable time.
Teamwork during Production and Post-Production:
  • Discuss how your group used storyboards, shot-lists and a shooting schedule to assist during the filming making process;
The group was very good with using storyboards, the shooting schedule and the shot lists as we can all agree those things made the timing process a lot easier as it made us more understanding to what we were filming and put a clearer picture in our heads.
  • Did your group experience any organisational issues during filming, (i.e. members who were absent or did not contribute; finding suitable times to film; forgetting shot-lists, costumes; not booking equipment etc.) How did you manage or work around these difficulties?
There was actually a lot of problems with organisation. One of the members in the group, her mum didn't want to drop her at the location as it was an inconvenience for her and also in Brisbane where we were shooting she had to leave earlier then planned which was difficult for the rest of us but we solved it easier. We worked around this by getting someone else to film and act.
  • Describe any problems or difficulties you encountered during post-production and editing. These may include; technical difficulties, corrupt or missing files, group related issues. etc;
We did not have any technical difficulties, corrupt or missing files, group related issues. Everything went according to plan before production.

  • Did your group complete all shots as detailed in your planning?
There was a few shots that didn't get completed as one person in the group didn't like some so we cut them out but other then that all shots got completed in the same amount of detail as the planning.
Discuss your individual feelings about the Music Video Task:
  • Are you group satisfied with the final result?
I am extremely satisfied with the final result. Since day one I knew my music video was going to be different from the other members of my group. I knew I wanted it to build up and start slow and then towards the end I cut out the music that was slow and then put the loud faster music in so I could make it fast and quick. I am very happy with how it turned out.
  • Would like to change any aspects of your music video or its original concept?
I wouldn't change anything about my music video, I am proud of it as it looks like how I pictured in my mind and since all of the group contributed to the original concept of what it was about I wouldn't change anything.
  • If you could start the project again what would you do differently?
I would probably have shot more individual scenes so that way at the end when there is quick shots there would be more to show quickly to show its over a longer time period, I would also get more shots of close ups to show more emotions from each of the characters so it is more relatable and entertaining to those watching.
  • Was it easier planning, filming and managing your time during this project than your first film? Why?
This was probably my favourite project then all my other films as the idea is relatable to a lot of people and speaks to more people of this age. The time management was exretemly good as we all knew what we wanted to achieve. Filming was better then the last film as the last film I didn't get any say of how I wanted it to be filmed and this film I actually said what I wanted and got good results, also in planning my voice was heard and my idea’s unlike my last film.
  • Did your treatment accurately reflect your video or were the substantial differences between the concept and final product?

The treatment accurately reflected the video, I do not believe there is any differences between the concept and the final product because we all had a picture of what we thought it would look like and then editing we edited the same as we wrote it out like.

Media parts.

Holly : Her part for the film is that she is in love and then finds out her boyfriend has been cheating and becomes depressed and can't trust anyone ever again.

Claire : My part is that I am a typical girl from school that is getting bullied.

Sascha : Her part is that she is getting abused by her father.

Lesson

Last lesson in media, we had to film the last scene of our entire film. In order to do this we had to get girls from our class to act as ‘’bullies’’. They did  a good job but we had trouble with location as the lockers we have are to small so we had to find a different location. It was a success as we portrayed the idea of mental and physical abuse. I have nearly finished editing but I still need to show mr andrews my rough copy as soon as I import the videos onto my laptop and then put it together for my scenes in the flashbacks.

STORYLINE

The storyline for our media video is to show people the problems in the day to day lives of teenagers in high school. It will start of with 3 girls sitting in a  room with shots of there faces as the camera circles them from inside and out. It will then go to holly's face and show her story, fade to mine and then sascha's. Then when the music gets faster which i will edit it will show the sad truthful side of emotions of teenagers and the things they go through to go to the last shot of the girls all lifting up their faces.

Problems in the lesson

Today we were re filming my scenes for our film and we had a few problems as we had to change classrooms and changed the shot list as we thought having my character punching the girls would seem to violent as we already have the dad 'punch' the girl.

Aside from that it is all running smoothly

Term 4

This term in media it is week 4, I am in a group with myself, Sascha and Holly.

We have chosen to do the song wait by m83 as a music video.

It is going to be a narrative as it has a story to follow, it will be both fast and slow pace

Self-reflection and evaluation

Year 10 Media Arts Genre Film Production

Self-reflection and evaluation:

Please answer each question on your blog, using complete sentences and including as much detail as possible.

Discuss your feelings about the production and editing task: Please justify your responses:
  • Were you satisfied with the concept and footage that your group created? (i.e. did the filming capture the essence of your concept?)
I didn’t 100% love the concept of the video that the group created as I felt like my ideas weren't heard so I did not capture the essence of my concept.
  • How did your final edit differ to the other members’ of your group? (consider the order of your shots, editing techniques i.e. colour correction, transitions, effects, use of sound )
I am glad about the film I made because it’s so different to my groups. It is different based on the shots, music and the ending I changed and made it go differently to what the other members were planning to do.
  • Would like to change or improve any aspects of your final film (storyline, shots, editing etc.)?
I wouldn't want to change my editing or shots but if I could do it again I would change the concept of the film.
  • If you could start the project again, what would you do differently?
I would get different actors and make a completely different storyline.

As this task focused on selecting a specific genre, describe:
  • How you used specific elements of mise-en-scene to depict your film’s genre and enhance the narrative?
I used specific elements of mise-en-scene to depict out films genre of horror and thriller like thing such as suspense and the sound effects to enhance it.
  • How you used specific shot types to convey the story using visual language?
To convey the story using visual language I edited shots to run smoothly and then quick shots to convey horror.
  • Whether the intended genre is depicted clearly or if this could be improved?
I think the genre is clear as the music, idea of the story is clear through the music and the lighting as well as the set environment it was filmed in.
Include images and screenshots where appropriate, to support your evaluation.
Personal reflection and evaluation:
After your previous tasks, you were asked to identify aspects of planning and production which could be improved. Please explain which aspect you chose to focus on for this task and how you have made improvements.

Reflecting upon your completed task, respond to the following points:
  • How well did you use the features available in Final Cut Pro?
I think I used the features well but I only used the simple editing tools.
  • How did other people respond to your rough-edit? Did you use their feedback to make changes to the film?
The girls in my group liked my edit and gave their opinions which was not to change it .
  • Did your group use the planning and analysis tools effectively? (ingredients list, storyboards, shot lists).
With my group the planning changed and so did the storyboards and shot lists but in the end it was essential to have and made it very easy to film once they were sorted out correctly.
  • Were there any problems or difficulties during filming and how did this affect your project. (Difficulties may include; shooting, technical, time-management, teamwork, absences or editing etc.);
There was so many problems that went wrong. The place we were suppose to film which we were told we could film in suddenly the teacher said we couldn't so we had to find another place and another group was using it so we had to delay filming. Time management was a big problem and also setting.
  • Discuss whether you undertook adequate and detailed reflection to support your work? (Look at your blogs and consider if it looks like a terms worth of work);

I think my blog posts has been the best it’s been and I have improved and will hope to make it even better and learn from this term’s blog posts and hopefully improve in the near future and have more things about the lesson.

Problems with the set location

In media, our whole idea is based off of one room in the library.
Half way through production we were told by our teacher that we aren't allowed to actually use it.

So we have had to explore and find a new place and we have now dressed it too look like a real archives room and will be filming thursday afternoon.

plot idea

Final Plot Idea
Three girls, all with specific character traits, are seen in their school talking after hours. Walking through the school grounds, they spot a set of keys that are labeled for the old library. Two of the girls think that it would be an exciting adventure to explore the old, and abandoned library. One girl, who is shy and a goody-two-shoes wants to find the owner of the keys immediately and is really reluctant to go. However, she is soon convinced. They look through the old classrooms and shelves of the library and quickly chilled by the strange things they find throughout. Going into the archives room, they find a file that is classified. Pumped up on the adrenaline of doing something they shouldn't, they open the files and read of a horrific accident that took place many years ago leaving three students dead in that very library. They find newspaper clippings, pictures and other things leave the girls quite scared, but not as much as much as the pictures that all resemble one of the girls. Horrified at this thought, they try to leave but realise they have been locked in. The lights suddenly flicker off and they make a plan to get themselves out of there as soon as possible. One girl goes off to find an alternate route out, while another searches for a way to turn the lights back on. Forgetting the keys, one decides to pull a mean prank and scare the shy friend. Through strange circumstances both girls die much like they had just read in the files. The other girl is dragged into a room and the story finishes with high tension and suspense.

TERM 3 MEDIA ARTS

This term in media arts, we have been randomly put into groups of 3. I am with Zoe, Daisy and an exchange student. For the 1st two lessons we thought long and hard about what we should make our film about. It has to be 3- 4 minutes and a Genre film. We have chosen thriller/horror

I am very excited to do this as I love making films and ideas, we have come up with a brilliant idea about making it about 3 girls getting trapped in a haunted old school library and one by one they get killed just like the girls did in the photos of the school they find. For the second lesson we looked at the old library took some photos and got good ideas of where to film and what, we also came up with who would be playing who

I am very excited for this terms assignment film

Reflection

In one lesson of media, we had to go to the drama room and get some props and costumes. my partners and i thought this would be a problem as we didnt think we would be allowed but we were! we were so glad because if we weren't allowed it would have set us back a few days as at the beginning we didnt manage time the best but when we got the stuff we went straight into filming and then we got the hang of filming quick
and it was a success

Reflection

Whilst filming the flashback scenes, it started to rain,
this was making it difficult for sascha and I as we had limited time to film. Overall we had to wait for the rain to stop and then film, In the mean time we came up with a lot more ideas for the film which we added to the film which I think made it better.

While filming we had trouble with the lights in the office as we had no one to hold them, so instead we angled then up as well as using natural light. I think this made the film a lot better.

media evaluation

Year 10 Media Arts Film Noir Style Production – Term 02 Mr. Andrews

Self-reflection and evaluation:

Please answer each question using complete sentences, including as much detail as possible.

Discuss your feelings about the production task: Please justify your responses:
·      Are you satisfied with the result? (i.e. did it turn out as well as you hoped?)
I am extremely satisfied with my final result as everything I had planned and thought out came to life in my film, Every angle every sound every prop and costume was perfect and was the exact thing I was thinking of when I thought about what the film should be about and what it should look like, so I am extremely happy with the final result,
·      Did the project require more/less time than you originally thought?
The project took the perfect amount of time that I thought, we didn’t need to re film anything and we didn’t need to do anything else, we shot for 1 day at school in the office setting and the next day we shot outside at school in a street. So overall it went for the perfect amount of time as I originally thought it would.. maybe even less,
·      Would like to change or improve any aspects of your final film (storyline, shots, editing etc.)?
The only thing I would change in the film would not be the storyline, or the shots or editing it would have to be my style of acting and my partners. If we had an actual male play the part of the detective the story and dramatic impact would have been more effective. Also if we had enough time I would have liked to put a voiceover over it to help the audience hear what the characters were saying clearly instead of it being mumbled.
·      If you could start the project again, what would you do differently?
If we were to start the project again I would want to speak louder when we were filming so that way we wouldn’t have had to do a voice over and it would have run more smoothly. There is nothing else I would want to do differently except the sound.

As this task focused on the Film Noir Style, describe:
·      How you used specific elements of mise-en-scene to depict your film’s genre and enhance the narrative?
We used it very well as the setting seemed like this was shot in the early 19's, we also used costume and props to make it seem like it was in that time and drama genre.  Also the acting style was very 19's as this helped enhance the story.
·      How you used specific shot types to convey the story using visual language?
We used specific shot types well to convey the story using visual language well, we wanted the detective to be suspicious so we used close ups and the visual language helped him seem mysterious. This helped make the story line clear.
·      Whether the intended genre is depicted clearly or if this could be improved?
I think the intended genre was clear, the music made the drama genre clear as it was dramatic music. Also the colouring of the film as well as the costumes and characters made it very clear to the audience.

Personal reflection and evaluation:
After your previous task, you were asked to reflect upon the project and identify aspects of planning, production and reflection, which could be improved. Please explain which aspect you chose to focus on for this task and how you have made improvements.
I chose to focus on editing, this task since i edited the film i think i have really improved as it runs a lot smoother and the storyline is much more clear. Overall I am very pleased with my improvements.

Reflecting upon your completed task, respond to the following points:
·      How did other people respond to your rough-edit? Did you use their feedback to make changes to the film?
Other people loved the rough edit, I showed it to my grandparents and my mum and they all said it looked like a professional film! that was very good to hear and encouraging but the only thing they thought we needed to change was the sound of the people speaking as it was very hard to hear. We used their feedback well and that helped us make good changes to our film

      Did your group use the planning and analysis tools effectively? (ingredients list, storyboards, shot lists).
My group did very well when it came to using the planning, Every time we shot a scene or a sequence we would always use the storyboard and the shot lists so we knew what we needed to film next and what the next shot would look like, it helped us when we had to angle the camera just right.
·      Were there any problems or difficulties during filming and how did this affect your project. (Difficulties may include; shooting, technical, time-management, teamwork, absences or editing etc.);
The only problem we had was one of the group members couldn't make it to the second day of shooting so myself and sascha had to film and act on our own, and then it started to rain heavily so we had to act quick, protect the camera from rain whilst checking the shotlist to see if we were filming correctly. Other then that we didn't have any other problems as we were very organised and had good team work skills and good time management.
·      Discuss whether you undertook adequate and detailed reflection to support your work? (Look at your blogs and consider if it looks like a terms worth of work);
I think this term I did not undertake enough detail in my blog to support my work as I was to busy focusing on editing the film and acting. I know that this is something I will defiantly need to improve on, It does look like work but not as much as a term’s worth of reflections and blog posts.. not as much as I would have liked.

Problems shooting eye of the stalker.

There was no problems shooting or editing or planning this film

Everyone had their own separate job, I edited the film, holly directed and sascha acted and helped record. We had planning done quick, filming done properly and locations were perfect and there was no dramas.

Everyone was organised with props and costumes.

As a result I am proud of this film and I think it is a success.

Jurassic Park

In today's Lesson we had to watch jurassic park and evaluate.

the editing was used to create rhythm, because the scene got faster as the scene went on but when it started it was very slow. The editing of the t red walking created intensity and rhythm to the scene.

How was sound used?
sound was used affectivity, it added tension and made us feel like we were in the scene and made the audience scared when the dinosaur roared, it also set a mood for the film.

Sounds I heard :
I heard many different sound effects such as animals like lions, dolphins, birds etc.
I heard different sound effects of cars crashing and glass shattering
I also heard sound effects of rain
